Local athlete honored at Oregon Sports Awards

Meagan Paxton, a 30-year-old Special Olympics Oregon athlete from Gladstone, was selected as the 2010 Lou Burge Special Olympics Athlete of the Year.

She received the honor among other Oregon athletes like Brandon Roy and Ndamukong Suh.

Paxton, who works for United Western Grocers, has been involved in a number of sports including aquatics, basketball, cross-country skiing, cycling, gymnastics, soccer, softball and tennis. She has competed as part of the Special Olympics Team USA in four World games, is a Shriver Greatness Award winner and received Varsity letters as a student at Rex Putnam High School in track and swimming. Paxton said her proudest moment was competing in Nagano, Japan with Team USA in 2005.

Paxton's next competition is March 14 at the Howard M. Terpenning Recreation Complex in Beaverton (50 NW 158th Avenue), where she will be playing basketball in the Winter Regionals Games.

Marine Patrol alerts boaters of recent land slide and debris in Clackamas River

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol has reported a land slide along the Clackamas River.

Marine Patrol personnel located this slide approximately one mile downstream from Barton Park. The photo images provided illustrate the significance of this land slide with the accompanying large trees blocking a portion of the river.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol encourages boaters to use caution while transiting along this portion of the Clackamas River. In addition, this dislodged sediment may eventually alter river channels downstream from this location. Changes in water levels may also dislodge these trees in the water, causing them to float downstream and block other river channels.

Los Angeles--

UPDATE

Really annoyed the stadium announcer keeps pronouncing Jacquizz Rodgers' name as "juh-KEEZ."He began the game by talking about Lyle"MOH-voh."

The USC pre-game radio broadcasters and the university's own athletic director had more respect, recognizing the talents of the Rodgers brothers and how difficult they are to tackle.

Capacity of the LA Memorial Coliseum: 93,607 (which means it's really loud when the Trojans get it going).

Attendance tonight: 89,217
