Teen sues school district

MILWAUKIE, Ore. – A teenage girl is suing both the North Clackamas School District and the state of Oregon after she was sexually abused by a teacher.

This suit stems from a 2009 case with Christopher Klitgord, convicted of having sex with a 16-year-old student while he was working as a teacher at Milwaukie High School. He now is serving a 14-month jail sentence for the crime.

According to KATU News, the victim is seeking $1.25 million from the district and the state commission that oversees teacher standards.

Her lawsuit alleges they failed to discover that Klitgord forged his own letters of recommendation and was actually ineligible to teach in the New York State school system where his reference letter supposedly came from.

Christopher Klitgord was convicted of six counts of second-degree sexual abuse and one count of tampering with a witness. These sex abuse charges do not mean the sex was forced but that the student was too young to legally consent to sex.
